My friend has been denied prenatal care. Any advice/answer on why they did?

she has a fibroid in her uterus and it feeds off blood so as the baby grows the fibroid grows. Her doctor which was a specialist who sees high risk women told her she should terminate the pregnancy or their mite be a possibility her and/or the baby mite die. Now doctors refuse to see her.
they won’t give her referrels to other doctors, and i have heard doctors tell mothers that something is wrong/gonna be wrong with their child and the baby comes our fine.

Doctors have to pay for malpractice insurance. Sometimes they are not allowed to treat certain conditions…but there is always a doctor who can. Your friend should call the doctor and ask for a referral to another doctor, because it’s obvious she needs care. She may end up going to the clinic at a medical school…that’s what I had to do for my first pregnancy, because of my weight and blood pressure issues.

Your friend needs to see another perinatologist, and if they tell her also that it’s possible she or the baby will die during the pregnancy or birth, she will need to carefully think about her options. Doctors really don’t say something like that unless there’s a very real reason for it.

A doctor doesn’t have to take on a patient, or treat anyone unless it is a medical emergency. More then likely since he has already stated the fact that he feels the pregnancy is unsafe for the mother, he probably does not want to be responsible if she does die because she didn’t listen. Best thing she can do is go to the emergency room, and tell them I am pregnant I don’t have a doctor and I can’t find one who will take me as a patient. I need medical care, and explain the condition she has and the situation. They will do what they can to help her.

private doctors can refuse any patient but a hospital cant call your local hospital and start getting specialists names

In the state of Florida people who get denied prenatal from Medicaid or any other insurance company can still be seen at the health department the whole way through.

Now I suggest your friend get another doctor. I dont know much on the situation as I am not in a high risk pregnancy but she should def. get a second opinion.

She should just continue to hunt a doctor who will take her, even if it means leaving the state she is in. Good luck to her!
